The robots.txt file

The robots.txt file is a file that is just what it says: a txt file created in Notepad or WordPad and saved in standard txt format. It gives Internet Search Engine Spiders their instructions for spidering your Web Site. Without it 2 things happen, first your error log will fill up with file not found errors and some search engines will just go away when they don't find it.

It should be saved in your document root directory where the main page of your Web Site is located. This is usually the httpdocs or web or www directory on most servers. If you aren't sure then ask your website design company or web hosting company where the document root directory is. A test to see if you have it is to type into your web browser: http://www.YOUR_DOMAIN_NAME/robots.txt If you see it come up in your browser you are good. If it doesn't it is creating errors each time a spider hits your site and it may be hurting your rankings and slowing down or even stopping some search engines from indexing your site.

Please note, just having the ROBOTS META TAG on your page isn't enough. You will still get the errors in your log files and the Search Engines still be requesting the robots.txt file and getting a 404 or File Not Found error. A good way to use the ROBOTS META TAG is to make an exception to the robots.txt file. Some engines honor the tag and some do not.

To see the one that I use here you can take a look at: http://www.linksareblue.com/robots.txt You will notice that the User-agent: * means it covers every Search Engine and the Disallow: /cgi-bin/ and Disallow: /cgibin/ means I want it to Spider and index everything in my site except the cigbin and cgi-bin directories. SEARCH ENGINE DOORWAY PAGE MAKER SOFTWARE

This software allows you to take a text file with one key phrase to each line and use it to create thousands of pages for the search engines to gobble up.

A unique feature that makes this different from most all the competition is that, although it comes with 3 template pages, you can also cut and paste your own new templates to the software or add additional code to be added to any place on an existing template. This allows you to totally customize your pages and even add your Adsense or Yahoo Publisher codes.

The system then creates an index.html page listing all the pages you created. This means that if you link the main page of your site to this index.html page and then register your main page you do not have to register each page with the engines, the spiders will follow the links to each of them.
This is a great way to promote ALL your Web Sites and create literally thousands of pages in just a few minutes. The system works like this:

# Create a text file using Notepad containing all your key phrases one to a line.

# Use one of the existing templates or create your own.

# Create a directory, preferable one named the same as you want it to be on your hosting server, on your hard disk to hold these pages.

# Tell the program by browsing where the text file is located and what directory you want the pages created in.

# Tell the program how many pages to create. We recommend no more then 500 to a directory because some servers are slower then others and with more then that the load time could be so slow they don't get indexed.

# Press the BUILD key

# The program will then create your pages into the directory you specified.

# FTP the entire directory to your server.

# Create a Link from your main page or site map page to this new directory.

# Wait for the Search Engines to gobble up your pages.

# Allows you to cross link all the pages if you like.

# Allows you to choose one main name for your pages like DentalCare.html and save all your pages using incrememtal file names. EX: DentalCare001.html, DentalCare002.html, DentalCare003.html etc.

United States Zip Code Database for Search Engine Marketers

The United States Zip Code Database for Search Engine Marketers. This database contains all the States, Counties, Area Codes, Cities, Telephone Area Codes and Zip Codes for the United States.

The Database is designed to be loaded into any type of server database to allow you to create geographically targeted pages. If you use the entire database you would create roughly 70,000 unique pages that are all targeted to a specific zip code. The database can also be used for drop down windows based on states, counties, cities, area codes or zip codes. The uses are almost unlimited.

This database is designed for Search Engine Marketing and NOT for US Mail corrections.

The zip code database is split into 2 parts so that it is easier handle on older computers. The number 2 file of each set starts where the part one leaves off.

The 2 formats are:

Excel Spreadsheet
This can be used in any Excel compatible software to load the data into your spreadsheet so that you can manipulate it and export it out as needed.

Tab Delimited Text
You can open these files with Notepad, WordPad, MS Word or just about text based editor. Also because the file is tab delimited you can import it into most databases directly.
